Inclement Weather
In the event that school is closed during bad weather the school will be listed on Channel 5 (NBC) or Channel 2 (FOX). If Discovery is listed as CLOSED then the school is closed entirely. If the school is listed as SNOW SCHEDULE then extended day children only may attend.
Senior Service Project
Preston Whittaker has joined our classroom as his senior service project for Althoff Catholic School in Belleville, IL. Preston will be with us for three weeks all day to help us out! We are proud that Preston chose Discovery School and look forward to having him in our room!
Pets in the Classroom
As most of you know our classroom received a grant called Pets in the Classroom and we have recently purchased two zebra finches. The zebra finches are female and named Isabella and Daisy. The children enjoyed observing and asking questions about the birds and we hope that the birds continue to be a source of curiosity and learning in our room!
Looking Back…………
Over the past school year we have investigated apples and pumpkins and went on a field trip to Pottery Hollow. In December we had some unusually warm temperatures for outdoor play. During the month of December we kicked off our food project and talked about the different foods we like. The first half of the school year has gone by quickly.
Project News
We will continue our food project with some hands on cooking projects. We will be making and trying new foods and introducing the children to different types of kitchen utensils. Thanks to all who have donated for any of our projects this school year! It has helped to make the project run a little smoother and be a little more fun for the children!
“There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One of these is roots, the other, wings.” - Hodding Carter
